"We must not lose
focus. Yes, rowing is
tough work. But if
we all keep rowing
together it will not
seem as hard."
"Teamwork is
the key. Let’s be a
team that God will
be proud of."
"And thank you for
allowing me to lead
this team."

If you have ever watched a
competitive rowing contest, then
you have seen a person at the end
of the boat who seems to be doing
nothing but riding, while everyone
else is doing the work. Well that
person has a very important job.
They are keeping everyone on the
same stroke and working in unison
and harmony.
If he wasn’t there, then the crew
would be like Diana and me on the
river just going around in circles.
Rowing a boat takes teamwork. It
takes everyone working together
and pulling their fair share. That is
the only way that a crew can win
the competition.
Church work is not any different. It
takes a team of dedicated people
working together in unison and
harmony. It takes a pastor {me} to
keep the team rowing in the same
direction and with the same goal.
Believe me when I tell you that
church folks have a tough time
staying focused. It doesn’t make us
bad, it just makes us human. Yes
we are saved and yes we love
Jesus and yes we love one
another and yes we have our own
agenda sometimes.
However, we have got to row this
boat together and
stay focused on the prize. Friends,
we really do not have time to loose
focus. God is doing a work in the
world and that includes Berea,
Kentucky. Every day really does
bring us closer with our eternal
destiny. Jesus really is going to
return to earth.
The rapture of the church is not a
fairy tale to keep us kind of good; it
is an eternal truth of God’s word.
Brothers and sisters, we have to
row together. We must not lose
focus.
Yes, rowing is tough work. But if we
all keep rowing together it will not
seem as hard. Teamwork is the
key.
Let’s be a team that God will be
proud of. And thank you for
allowing me to lead this team.
I know that you know that little
childish song. Remember the
words,”…gently down the stream.
Merrily,merrily merrily,merrily,
life is but a dream.” I know.
I know. You are probably thinking
that it’s a slow month for me and
that I cannot come up with
something to write about, but you
are so mistaken. I am going to talk
to all of you about pulling your fair
share of the load and pulling
together.
This little kid song makes canoeing
sound so easy. But if you have ever
been on a river in a canoe, then you
know how difficult it can be.
When Diana and I were dating, I
thought that a nice little seven mile
canoe trip on the Blue River in
Indiana would be so romantic.
Well, needless to say, it was a tough
trip. Diana sat in the front and
played with her oar in the water,
while I tried to get us seven miles
down river. It was a long and
aggravating journey.
We kept going in circles and
running aground on sand bars. And
when we finally got to the dock, the
workers held the canoe for Diana as
she got out and they forgot about
me or ignored me while making
sure that Diana got all the help she
needed. I attempted to get out and
had one foot on the dock and my
other foot in the canoe.
I’ll spare you the details, but I
ended up in the river. So I found
out that paddling or rowing a boat
is a hard job.
Declaration of Faith
The Church of God believes the whole Bible
to be completely and equally inspired and
that it is the written Word of God. The
Church of God has adopted the following
Declaration of Faith as its standard and
official expression of its doctrine.
We Believe:
* In the verbal inspiration of the Bible.
* In one God eternally existing in three
persons; namely, the Father, Son, and Holy
Ghost.
* That Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son
of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost,
and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was
crucified, buried, and raised from the dead.
That He ascended to heaven and is today at
the right hand of the Father as the
Intercessor.
* That all have sinned and come short of
the glory of God and that repentance is
commanded of God for all and necessary for
forgiveness of sins.
* That justification, regeneration, and the
new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of
Jesus Christ.
* In sanctification subsequent to the new
birth, through faith in the blood of Christ;
through the Word, and by the Holy Ghost.
* Holiness to be God's standard of living for
His people.
* In the baptism with the Holy Ghost
subsequent to a clean heart.
* In speaking with other tongues as the
Spirit gives utterance and that it is the initial
evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
* In water baptism by immersion, and all
who repent should be baptized in the name of
the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Ghost.
* Divine healing is provided for all in the
atonement.
* In the Lord's Supper and washing of the
saints' feet.
* In the premillennial second coming of
Jesus. First, to resurrect the righteous dead
and to catch away the living saints to Him in
the air. Second, to reign on the earth a
thousand years.
* In the bodily resurrection; eternal life for
the righteous, and eternal punishment for the
wicked.
The Church of God was founded in 1886
upon the principles of Christ as they are
revealed in the Bible, the Word of God. It has
its foundation of faith and practice in the
Scriptures and the vital experience of its
constituents is scripturally oriented.
First and foremost, the Church of God is a
determinedly Christian church. It is built
upon the person of Jesus Christ, the Son of
God. The doctrines and practices of the
church are based upon His teachings.
